More on the house hunt

We didn't end up getting the last house I posted about due to a series of unfortunate events - but no worries.

About a month ago, we looked at a house that was a bit out of our price range, but was pretty large and also in a very nice neighborhood - definite potential, but just a bit too much. A couple of days ago, I was looking at ZipRealty.com and noticed that it just had a HUGE price drop! We went back to look at it today, and after looking it over for awhile, we decided to put in an offer. There are a couple of issues with the house, so even if the bank accepts our offer, we'd need to get an inspector out there to make sure there are no major health or safetey hazards before we'd agree to buy the house for sure.

Here are a few pictures:

The biggest project we'd need to tackle, the kitchen. It needs to be gutted. There are three different kinds of nauseating vinyl flooring right on top of each other, three different kinds of homemade looking cabinets, and it's in desperate need of new paint and lighting.

The entryway - needs serious updating, but won't be hard or expensive to do.

The family room with a little nook in the corner which will become my scrap area:

Totally cute faucet - why it's in the master bathroom, I don't know.... but cute nonetheless. We'd move it to the kid's bathroom.

Terrible, horrible, no good, very bad paint job in the kids' bathroom - one of the first things to go besides the awful kitchen.

Quite frankly, it's pretty ugly right now - but we can't pass up the opportunity to fix it up and make it ours. In a few years when the market comes back up again, the resale value will be amazing. Some new paint and flooring will go a long way in making it look nicer, along with the new kitchen and a few other little cosmetic things. That is of course if it passes inspection... which could go either way. We'll have to see what happens in the next few days. I'll update as soon as I can!
